Hello Cool World @ Sexhibition 2011

By Bella Sie On April 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Bella and Michelle came down with a table full of goodies to attend the Opt Sexhibition, a part of the Opt 50th Anniversary Celebration. We chatted with some lovely attendees about our sexual health campaigns, including LACE, Around the Kitchen Table, and I Have Immunity. Then we thought we would make a little video to share with everyone!

PS - We know our video text is backwards but we did that deliberately. Just to be interesting.

Projecting Change Festival on until April 25!

By Katherine Dodds On April 24, 2010 | 0 Comments

So far Projecting Change Film Festival has been a blast. Check out the interview we did with Colette on the opening night. Colette Gunson is executive director of the festival, and our history with her goes back to when she worked with Hello Cool World for the launch of The Corporation. Most recently she helped us with our LACE PSA shoot, and a workshop we did with the BCNU.

If you want to go to films at Projecting Change (and hurry there's not much time left!)  don't forget to mention Hello Cool World as a festival supporter to get $2 off ticket!

Last night's LACE launch and party was a total success with many folks at the screening of "Chemerical" which was the feature doc that our LACE short films preceded. A discussion afterwards was accompanied by some eco-friendly cleaning product  & cosmetic gift bags.

Put That Bottle Down... It's World Water Day!

By Katherine Dodds On March 22, 2010 | 0 Comments

Water has been an issue dear to my heart since we started the company 9 years ago. My mother always said, if you want to do one thing to decrease suffering in the world, make sure you give everyone, everywhere access to free, clean water.

Sadly, we've gone in the other direction.

We've polluted the last largest fresh water body on earth (The Great Lakes) and we are heading towards what many believe are the world water wars. And did you know that Nestle controls most of the world's bottled water?

Ending Sexual Assault Is Everyone’s Business: An Interview with Michele Murphy, WAVAW’s SafeVibe Coordinator

By Lizzy Karp On February 11, 2010 | 0 Comments

SafeVibe is a movement for everyone who wants to keep predators out of the bars and put an end to sexual assault. A campaign by the Vancouver organization WAVAW (Women Against Violence Against Women), the SafeVibe community is made up of all genders and sexual orientations who are committed to keeping the party scene safe. Hello Cool World helped design SafeVibe and are hosting it in our "nestwork" of campaign sites. We continue to do whatever we can to help get the word out, such as this interview with SafeVibe Coordinator Michele Murphy!

HCW: Explain the evolution of the SafeVibe Campaign.

SV: The campaign really began with what women were telling us. We know in 2009 that 37% of our hospital accompaniments here at WAVAW were drug and alcohol facilitated sexual assault. This has been a consistent problem that is on the rise instead of a decline. We were seeing that drink spiking, predatory behavior and harassment in bars are a huge problem in Vancouver and the idea for the campaign started to grow.

After learning about books at the University of Toronto she now calls Vancouver home. She joined Hello Cool World as a member of the LACE campaign action team, and luckily for us, decided to stick around.

As we work on the new video for Chee Mamuk (STI Division of the BC Centre for Disease Control) with youth from the Sto:lo Nation (and a few others) I am feeling very privileged to get to work with such great people on projects that I really believe will have an impact. Don't Stress the Tests is an excerpt of the video we did last year with youth in  Chemainus. The new video we are launching later this month is called "Strong Path".
